Kieni MP Njoroge Wainaina recently revealed he had forgiven those responsible for looting and destroying his supermarkets in Nyeri and Nanyuki during anti-government protests on June 25. The incidents caused a staggering loss of Sh567 million across three retail outlets.
One of Wainaina's supermarkets in Nanyuki, housed in a four-storey building he owns, was looted and set on fire. Despite the destruction, detectives have arrested 16 suspects, some found with stolen goods, who are now awaiting trial in a Nanyuki court.
At the reopening of one of the Chieni supermarkets, Wainaina emphasized forgiveness, attributing the attacks to criminal intent rather than political motivations. "We have forgiven those who destroyed our business," he said, reflecting on his family’s decision.

While he refrained from commenting on the ongoing legal proceedings, Wainaina assured that the events would not hinder his commitment to serving his constituents. His business faced challenges after his support for the controversial Finance Bill 2024, which sparked public outrage.
The damaged section of his Nanyuki building has been demolished, with reconstruction expected to take several months. On reopening day, eager shoppers filled the supermarket, leading to long queues and temporary closures for crowd control.
Wainaina, who has yet to receive compensation from the government or insurance, revealed that he took out bank loans to fund the rebuilding efforts, demonstrating his resilience and determination to restore his business.
