Police have arrested a man and his wife after discovering marijuana worth thousands of shillings on their farm in Shinyalu Constituency, Kakamega County.

Confirming the incident, Kakamega County chief Bernard Mulinya said police officers received information from villagers about the presence of cannabis on the suspect's farm, prompting an investigation that led to the arrest of Sylvester Muyumba and his wife.

However, Michael Ingosi, the duo's son who is accused of planting the marijuana, escaped.

Elizabeth Kigai, the police officer in charge of the Khayega station, praised the locals for reporting the incident and encouraged them to report any ill practices in the area.

"We have begun this crackdown, and we will ensure that we eradicate marijuana so that our young people can attend school and conduct business," she stated.

The two suspects are detained at the Khayega police station pending further action.
