President William Ruto is scheduled to visit Haiti on Saturday, September 21, 2024, ahead of his trip to the United States for the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). This visit underscores Kenya’s expanding role in international peacekeeping, particularly its commitment to aiding Haiti in restoring security and stability amid ongoing gang violence.

Haiti, struggling with a rise in violent gang activity, has seen a multinational intervention led by Kenyan police officers. In June 2024, Kenya deployed 400 officers to spearhead the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSSM) in the country. The mission's goal is to strengthen the Haitian National Police (HNP) in their fight against criminal gangs and help restore law and order.

President Ruto's visit marks a significant diplomatic moment as he is set to meet with members of Haiti’s Presidential Council and later spend time with the Kenyan troops on the ground.
