The Court of Appeal has granted the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) permission to investigate former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero's bank accounts in relation to allegations of abuse of office during his time in office.

This ruling follows Kidero’s petition to block the commission from accessing his financial records. EACC accuses Kidero of illegally accumulating millions of shillings during his tenure as Nairobi Governor and his eight-year stint as Managing Director of Mumias Sugar Company.


Kidero argued in his appeal that EACC exceeded its authority by investigating him and securing orders to examine his six bank accounts. However, in a judgment delivered by a three-judge bench on Friday, September 20, the court ruled in favor of EACC, allowing the commission to complete its investigations into whether the former governor engaged in any irregular activities.

The case dates back to 2016, when Kidero initially went to the High Court after the Commission obtained orders from the Chief Magistrate's Court to access his accounts. The High Court dismissed his application, prompting Kidero to file an appeal, which has now been rejected by the Court of Appeal.
