Iran launched 200 missiles at Israel, including hypersonic weapons, for the first time, as reported by Iranian state TV on Wednesday.

The barrage targeted military bases around Tel Aviv and other vital sites, according to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The IRGC claimed that 90% of the missiles hit their targets late Tuesday. Israel confirmed that approximately 180 missiles were launched but said most were intercepted.

In June 2023, Iran introduced an intermediate-range ballistic missile capable of hypersonic speeds, which can travel up to 15 times the speed of sound.

These missiles are difficult to intercept due to their low-altitude trajectory. Iran's former president, Ebrahim Raisi, had stated that the rocket enhances Iran's deterrence capabilities and aims to promote peace and stability in the region.

In response, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that Iran had made a "grave mistake" with the missile attacks, which followed the recent assassination of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah by Israel.

The United States is coordinating a joint response with Israel, while Iran has warned it will retaliate against Israeli infrastructure if its territory is attacked.
