Kericho County Assembly has impeached Governor Eric Mutai after 31 members voted to favor the motion.

The impeachment is based on allegations of gross constitutional violations, office abuse, and public funds mismanagement.

Sigowet Ward MCA, Kiprotich Rogony, introduced the motion, citing severe offenses. Governor Mutai was expected to defend himself against these charges but did not attend the session. Instead, his legal team, led by Katwa Kigen, represented him.

Governor Mutai had claimed that a court order would block the impeachment proceedings, but it was reportedly not served in time, allowing the assembly to proceed.

Among the accusations, Rogony alleged that Mutai led a mob to seize private land in Kericho town for an illegal dumpsite and coerced women into inappropriate sexual activities.

The case will now move to the Senate, where the speaker of the County Assembly will inform them of the governor's impeachment.
