A family in Nyasio, North Mugirango, Nyamira County, is living in fear after the mysterious deaths of six relatives in the past year, with five of them dying within the last month. The most recent tragedy occurred last week when 67-year-old Jane Nyaboke and her two daughters, aged 39 and 45, went missing, only for their bodies to be discovered in separate thickets within the county. This has raised concerns that the family may be targeted by individuals with unknown motives.

The family is now urging the police to speed up investigations into the killings to ease their growing fears. For the sixth time in less than a year, the family of Mzee Hamisi is mourning yet again. The mysterious deaths have cast a dark cloud of fear, grief, and uncertainty over their home, as friends and relatives gather to offer their condolences and search for answers that remain elusive.

Peter Moturi, a family member, said, “In the past year, six people have died, and five of them in just one month.” Another relative, Bilhar Kerubo, expressed their frustration, pleading, “We ask the government to help us. People are being killed like chickens.”

The latest deaths of the mother and her two daughters have left the village in shock. Jane Nyaboke and her daughter Edna left home for errands but never returned. The next day, as the family searched for them, they discovered that Jane’s other daughter, Lorna Kerubo, had also gone missing. Their bodies were found in separate locations, making five deaths from the same family within a month.

Relatives fear they are being targeted and criticize the police for their slow response. Abdalla Hamisi, another relative, lamented, “The police are not doing their job properly. Even those who were killed here at home—police haven't followed up. When they do post-mortems, it leads nowhere."
