Muslim leaders in the country are urging the government to halt its support for the promotion of miraa (khat) sales, including funding farmers and collecting taxes from those involved in the trade. They argue that the crop has caused significant harm to individuals and families.

Speaking in Nairobi, the leaders announced their commitment to raising awareness about the negative impacts of miraa by engaging communities in anti-miraa campaigns. In addition to calling for an end to tax collection from farmers and traders of the stimulant, the leaders are pushing for the repeal of laws that support the miraa trade, such as the Crops Act and the Agriculture and Food Authority Act.
