An 18-year-old girl from Mbiuni in Mwala Subcounty is recovering at Machakos Level 5 Hospital after being violently attacked by her 22-year-old boyfriend, Brian Waita.
The victim, Ndanu, who is 23 weeks pregnant, suffered severe injuries, including deep cuts to her neck and a broken arm.
The incident unfolded after what seemed like a regular day. Ndanu and Waita shared lunch before he left, stating he would fetch a donkey for market use.

Upon returning, he began washing his shirt while Ndanu rested. Suddenly, she was viciously attacked with a panga, sustaining injuries to her neck and arm.
In shock and covered in blood, she managed to crawl to the bed and call a neighbor for help as her boyfriend locked her inside and fled.
A local man heroically climbed through the roof to unlock the door, allowing her rescue. Ndanu was first taken to Masii Level 3 Hospital for emergency care before being transferred to Machakos Level 5 for further treatment.
Juliana Mwendwa, the Nursing Service Manager at Machakos Level 5, confirmed Ndanu's severe injuries but said she is now stable and recovering in the orthopedic ward.
Mwendwa also expressed concern about the alarming rise in gender-based violence cases in the region, calling for urgent community action to address the issue.
Mwala OCPD Muthoni Wahome stated that the police are actively searching for Waita, who remains large.
Investigations are ongoing. Ndanu, devastated by the attack, expressed disbelief that her boyfriend, whom she described as loving and caring, could commit such an act.
