The Council of Governors (CoG) has announced its new leadership team. Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi has been named Chair, taking over from Kirinyaga Governor Waiguru.

Abdullahi assumes leadership at a pivotal time for county governments as they navigate pressing issues such as healthcare and resource mobilization, aiming to strengthen collaboration between the national and county administrations.

Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga has been appointed Vice Chair, while Nandi Governor Stephen Sang will be the Chief Whip.

This trio will guide the CoG’s strategic agenda, ensuring counties receive adequate resources and support to bolster Kenya’s devolution process.

Several critical committees within the CoG have also appointed new leadership. Kakamega Governor Fernandez Baraza will chair the Finance Committee, while Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki will take charge of the Health Committee.

Vihiga Governor Wilberforce Otichilo has been selected to lead the Environment and Forestry Committee, and Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka will head the Agricultural Committee.

Garissa Governor Nathif Adam will oversee the Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) Committee, while Kericho Governor Eric Mutai will chair the Education Committee.

West Pokot Governor Simon Kachapin has been tasked with leading the Gender, Youth, and Sports Committee. Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja will head the Human Resource, Labour, and Social Welfare Committee.

Other notable appointments include Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wesley Rotich as chair of the ICT Committee, Kisumu Governor Professor Anyang' Nyong’o for the Lands and Housing Committee, and Migori Governor Achillo Ayacko leading the Legal Committee.

Additionally, Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi will chair the Security Committee, and Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu will lead the Tourism Committee.

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti will head the Trade Committee, Marsabit Governor Mohammed Ali will manage the Transport Committee, and Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu will lead the Water Committee.
