The government has revealed that plans are well underway to ensure that all Kenyans have access to water in their homes by 2030. During the official launch and inspection of the Suswa-Narok Water Project, which had been damaged by floods, Principal Secretary for Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation, Julius Korir, confirmed that the Ksh.1 trillion project will be completed as part of the Universal Connection to Water initiative. This comes as the government continues to stabilize financially.

PS Korir highlighted that this year's total budget for water projects stands at Ksh.32 billion, with Ksh.23 billion coming from donors such as the World Bank and Africa Development Bank, Ksh.7 billion from the government, and the remaining funds from other partners.


He reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring that every Kenyan household has access to water by 2030, despite the financial challenges. "We have allocated Ksh.1 trillion to achieve universal water connection by 2030. This is a significant challenge, but as a ministry, we are working on various ways to raise the necessary funds," Korir stated.

The Suswa Water Project, which will cost Ksh.125 million, is being carried out in two phases. Key areas including Ole Tipis, Suswa, Duka Moja, and Nareboo will benefit from the project. Narok East MP Ken Aramat, however, criticized Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu for allegedly taking credit for national water projects, urging him to focus on county-level responsibilities instead. "The Governor needs to differentiate between national and county government projects. The Suswa project is a national government initiative," he remarked.

Reuben Korir, Managing Director of the Nakuru Water and Sanitation Service, also attended the event and assured that his office would fulfill its role in the project as per a presidential directive. "Our responsibility is to ensure the timely completion of the water project. The first phase will involve installing the pump and repairing pipelines, while the second phase will focus on constructing the main pipeline to Duka Moja," Korir confirmed.
