Kenyan Muslim leaders have called on President William Ruto to address the ongoing conflict in Gaza, condemning Israel’s military actions that have resulted in the deaths of over 42,000 people.

These leaders represent organizations such as the Jamia Mosque Committee, Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM), National Muslim Leaders Forum (NAMLEF), Council of Imams and Preachers of Kenya (CIPK), and the Kenya Association of Muslim Medical Practitioners (KAMMP), expressed their concerns over the President’s silence on the Israel-Hamas war, which has become a global issue.

During the launch of the "Voice for Palestine" initiative, Chairman Ahmed Sharif described the situation in Gaza as a humanitarian crisis marked by relentless bombings, blockades, and widespread suffering. The group urged the Kenyan government to join other global leaders in calling for an end to the violence.

In response to the growing humanitarian disaster, the leaders launched the Gaza Medical Campaign, aiming to raise USD 500,000 (Ksh.64.5 million) to provide medical aid to Palestinians injured by Israeli airstrikes.

SUPKEM leader Hassan Ole Nado highlighted the need for immediate action to alleviate the suffering of those unable to access medical care due to the ongoing blockade.

The crisis has spread beyond Gaza, with attacks also hitting Lebanon, resulting in over 1,000 deaths and significant displacement.

The leaders emphasized the need for a peaceful resolution to prevent further escalation in the region.

They also announced that Kenyan Muslim organizations had already raised Ksh.50 million to support humanitarian efforts in Gaza, with plans to collaborate with international agencies to facilitate medical assistance.
