A man was buried alive inside the rubble of a mine that had been suspended due to heavy rains in Karosi village, Kuria West sub-county.
According to Babere Chacha, a mine worker, accidents have been witnessed at the mine, and with the added risk of rains, activity had been suspended.
"We have been experiencing problems and even when entering the site, we have to go in as a group for safety," said Daniel Wangwi, another mine worker.
He pointed to another death several months ago as a worker was buried alive in Muongezeko area, four kilometres from the Karosi mining site.
Locals have now called for regulation of the activity to avoid deaths and injuries.
