The Judiciary has refuted claims of a purported meeting between President William Ruto and Chief Justice Martha Koome.
On October 16, 2024, a viral news poster circulated online, alleging that Koome was scheduled to meet with Ruto at State House, leading to mixed reactions. The poster claimed that the meeting would focus on discussing the alleged intimidation of judges by State House operatives in relation to Rigathi Gachagua’s impeachment as Deputy President.
However, in a rejoinder, the Judiciary dismissed the claims as fake news in an update on social media platform X on Tuesday, October 22.
The clarification followed moments before the commencement of the hearing of a petition filed by the former deputy president challenging his impeachment.
The three-judge bench led by Eric Ogolla, Anthony Mrima and Fridah Mugambi is expected to rule on whether to extend the orders barring Kithure Kindki’s swearing-in as the new deputy president or lift the directive.
