A family in Machakos County is mourning the loss of their teen son who drowned while swimming in a dam close to his school.
Seventeen-year-old Abel Mwendwa, a candidate from Katelembo Centre of Excellence, was heading home when the accident occurred.
Alexander Mwanzia, who witnessed the tragic event, described the scene: “I was the first to arrive and saw him without his clothes; before help could come, he had already drowned.”

On Sunday, distraught parents visited the school, demanding explanations from the administration regarding the incident.
"I asked the teacher what had happened, but I received no answers," said Baritta Mwikali, one of the concerned parents.
Local authorities are investigating claims that Abel may have been sent home to collect school fees, although the school principal has refuted this allegation.
