The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has seized 121 company stamps from a Roads Engineer suspected of embezzling Ksh.1.2 billion from Bomet County. Engineer Victor Cheruiyot allegedly exploited his position to secure multimillion-shilling tenders irregularly through companies like Hamron Logistics Ltd, Wincheru Construction Ltd, and Vird Building & Construction Ltd between January 2019 and May 2022.

EACC officers conducted a search at Cheruiyot's Bomet residence, but he reportedly managed to evade arrest and fled the scene. During the search, EACC discovered a fully equipped office set up for creating fake documents for non-existent construction projects, which were allegedly used to facilitate payments with senior county officials.

The EACC reported finding a large volume of documents at his home, including procurement and payment records, “approved” contracts for various companies, bid documents pending approval signatures, local purchase orders, unused payment vouchers, and requisitions for construction projects—many suspected to be forgeries.

Cheruiyot became a key suspect in the extensive embezzlement case following the October 24 arrests of County Executive Committee members (CECs). The CECs are under investigation for suspected unexplained wealth, procurement fraud, and the misappropriation of Ksh.373 million through fraudulent procurement of 12 heavy construction machines and trucks in the 2022/2023 financial year.
