Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are questioning Victor Ouma Okoth, the primary suspect in the murder of Willis Ayieko, a Wells Fargo human resources manager. Okoth, originally from Siaya, was apprehended at his hideout in Nairobi's Dandora Phase Four on Monday night after fleeing Nyamninia, Siaya County, where the crime took place.
Reports reveal that Okoth used Ayieko’s phone to withdraw over Ksh.100,000 in Dandora, funds he allegedly used to secure the rental space where he was later found. “He arrived around ten with a few items… we had no idea he was involved in a murder,” shared Dandora resident Kevin Omondi. Another local, Keffe Teche, added, “We saw government officers come yesterday and carry out their work.”
Forensic evidence has linked Okoth to the crime scene, and detectives are investigating possible accomplices, especially after autopsy results showed Ayieko died from blunt force trauma to the head. "The body was significantly decomposed, with noticeable injuries, bleeding, and bruises on the wrist," noted Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor, with Pathologist Emily Odhiambo confirming Ayieko’s identity. The pathologists are gathering further DNA evidence to conclusively connect Okoth to the murder.
Ayieko's family, present at the postmortem at Lee Funeral Home, has called for a thorough investigation and swift justice. Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi, speaking on behalf of the family, asked the public for patience, expressing their deep trauma and commitment to uncovering the truth. Siaya Governor James Orengo also conveyed his shock, describing the tragedy as unimaginable.
Ayieko’s body was discovered last Wednesday in a small stream in Nyamninia, three days after he went missing.
