United States Ambassador to Kenya, Meg Whitman, recently highlighted Kenya’s manufacturing potential, particularly in the textile industry, which plays a vital role in job creation in Uasin Gishu County.

During her visit to Moi University’s main campus, Whitman noted that the textile sector currently employs over 200,000 Kenyans and stressed the importance of expanding this industry to generate even more employment opportunities.

Ambassador Whitman emphasized the significance of investing in Kenya’s underdeveloped manufacturing sector, identifying textile manufacturing as a promising area for growth. She also expressed the American Embassy's commitment to supporting infrastructure and housing improvements in Uasin Gishu to enhance economic growth.

Whitman underscored the importance of environmental sustainability, pointing out green energy and eco-friendly cooking solutions as key interests in fostering ecological conservation in the region. She described green energy as a “significant opportunity” for Uasin Gishu’s future development.

Whitman also praised Eldoret’s achievement in gaining city status. Later, she traveled to neighboring Trans Nzoia County and engaged with civil society members to discuss further collaborative opportunities.
