A family in Rhonda Estate, Nakuru West, is desperately searching for their 9-month-old baby, Rehema Kerubo, who was taken by an unidentified middle-aged woman on Tuesday evening.
CCTV footage from a nearby supermarket shows the suspected woman engaging with four children who were with Baby Rehema before she vanished. The woman reportedly enticed the children with juice and French fries before abducting the baby.
Eighteen-year-old Maureen Gesare, Rehema's mother, is heartbroken as it has been four days since her only child was stolen. "I’ve lost my child. The children were tricked into accepting juice and fries worth a hundred shillings. I don’t know this woman, and no one else seems to recognize her. I’m begging her to return my baby," she pleaded.
Rehema’s aunt, Faith Kemunto, recounted how the children, familiar with Rehema, were lured by the stranger. "The woman approached them, asked for their names, and whether the baby was a girl or a boy. She then claimed to be new to Rhonda and asked them to show her around."
CCTV footage from the supermarket shows the woman, dressed in a blue dress, conversing with the children, one of whom was carrying Baby Rehema. Reports indicate that the woman convinced them she would buy them juice. At 5:51 p.m. on October 29, she entered the supermarket, bought plastic cups, and placed them in a bag. This was the last time Baby Rehema was seen.
According to Rehema’s aunt, “They drank the juice, which tasted strange. The woman then sent the older kids to buy chips while she stayed with the younger ones, including Baby Rehema. She told them to ask the others to bring back chips and chicken. When they returned, she had vanished."
The family has reported the incident to the Rhonda Police Post and is urging detectives to locate the suspect. "I haven’t seen my grandchild since she was taken. I raised her, and it breaks my heart. When she sees me, she calls me ‘Mama.’ Please help me find her," said Rehema’s grandmother, Lilian Moraa.
Rehema’s uncle, Evans Onsongo, expressed concern for the baby’s wellbeing, saying, "She is very young and was unwell. We don’t know how she is or if she’s safe. We’re pleading for anyone who can help bring her back."
Nakuru West DCIO Charles Kamau stated that investigations are underway to apprehend the suspect believed to have taken the baby.
