Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has urged Kenyans to support the government's new Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), warning that critics of the scheme may be attempting to protect a status quo riddled with inefficiencies and corruption.

He argued that these individuals may wish to preserve existing loopholes in the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF), which he claimed has enabled a few to profit at the expense of the nation’s health.

Speaking at the African Divine Church (ADC) 73rd anniversary celebration at Nairobi Primary School, Mudavadi emphasized that the SHIF scheme is a critical component of President William Ruto’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.

He assured the public that SHIF is intended to provide comprehensive healthcare access to all Kenyans, especially the most vulnerable. The scheme aims to improve healthcare delivery by expanding services from community-based facilities to advanced medical centers, covering essential treatments like dialysis and kidney transplants, and providing critical medical equipment.

Mudavadi highlighted that the government is dedicated to enhancing Kenya’s healthcare system with policies focusing on universal health access and making medical services available and affordable for everyone.

He stressed that the transition to SHIF will strengthen the health sector and improve healthcare accessibility for millions, reducing Kenyans’ dependency on the NHIF system, which he claimed has been plagued by mismanagement and corruption.

He also urged the public to remain patient as the government introduces reforms across the health sector, emphasizing that these efforts aim to provide quality care and create a more resilient and equitable system.
