Uber has partnered with Safaricom to offer free data bundles to drivers, delivery partners, and riders using the Uber and Uber Eats apps.

According to the partnership, Safaricom has zero-rated the Uber apps, allowing free access and covering Uber costs.

This collaboration also benefits Uber Eats customers and merchants across Kenya, enabling them to use the app data-free.

According to Uber East Africa Head Imran Manji, limited mobile data is a barrier for many Kenyans, particularly in rural areas, to access mobility options such as Uber Boda.

“Through this partnership with Safaricom, we can help bridge the gap in accessing data for many Kenyans, enabling them to access reliable and safe mobility. For drivers, this also represents savings on mobile data.”

On his part, Safaricom Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Peter Ndegwa, highlighted the initiative as part of Safaricom’s commitment to providing customers with affordable access to essential services.

The free data can be accessed by ensuring that VPN blockers are off and toggling Airplane Mode on and off on smartphones.

Since its debut nearly a decade ago, Uber has launched over nine products in Kenya, including Uber Electric Boda and Uber Comfort, designed to integrate with Kenyans’ everyday mobility needs.
