Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti encountered an unexpected moment during her appearance before the Senate Public Accounts Committee on October 29, when she read the incorrect version of the oath.
The committee chair requested that she retake the oath, pointing out that she had mistakenly included the word "else."
“Governor, which oath did you read? Are you reading an oath in your mind or the oath presented to you?” the chairperson questioned, directing Ndeti to re-read it without the extra word.
The corrected oath was then taken, stating, “I, Wavinya Ndeti, do solemnly swear that the evidence that I shall give before this committee shall be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, so help me God.”
Governor Ndeti appeared alongside her deputy, Francis Mwangangi, and Machakos County officials to address issues in the Auditor General’s 2022/2023 report, including unaccounted expenditures of Ksh.663 million.
