Baltasar Ebang Engonga, Director of Equatorial Guinea's Tax Administration, is facing a wave of public outrage after leaked videos showed him engaging in inappropriate behavior in his government office.

The scandal escalated as some videos allegedly featured the spouses of other high-ranking officials, igniting widespread criticism and a national debate about ethics within government institutions. Citizens have condemned Ebang’s actions, viewing them as symptomatic of a larger culture of unprofessionalism among some officials.

Already under investigation for alleged embezzlement, Ebang is now the subject of an expanded probe after financial irregularities were uncovered, suggesting broader misconduct.

In response, President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo and senior officials condemned Ebang’s actions, promising swift action to address inappropriate behavior in government. The government has also announced new security measures, including surveillance cameras in select government offices, aimed at curbing misconduct and preserving the integrity of public spaces.

Officials hope that this prompt response and the added security will signal to public employees that unethical behavior won’t be tolerated, and those who breach public trust will face serious repercussions.
