Raila Odinga has announced he has no plans to step away from active Kenyan politics as he campaigns for the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairmanship. Speaking at Ligisa Secondary School in Rangwe Constituency during a thanksgiving ceremony for Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Chairperson Gladys Wanga, Odinga clarified that his pursuit of the AUC position does not mean he will leave Kenyan politics behind.
“I am not going without coming back. I am still here,” he stated.
The ODM leader also reassured supporters that the party, now under Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o's stewardship, will continue promoting democracy in Kenya. Odinga expressed strong confidence in his chances of winning the AUC position.

Adding to Odinga's statement, National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed cautioned ODM politicians against making any succession plans, emphasizing that the party will take action against those engaging in such activities. Chairperson Wanga echoed this sentiment, urging that Odinga’s leadership position remains intact, while also expressing hope for party growth if he secures the AUC role.
Governor Nyong’o called on ODM officials to focus on member registration, as the party prepares for grassroots elections scheduled for November 27. These elections will begin at polling stations and proceed through ward, constituency, county, and national levels to establish the party’s new leadership team.
