Police in Busia have arrested a 23-year-old woman after she was found nursing a child suspected to have been stolen in Bukiri in Funyula sub-county.
Confirming the incident, OCPD Richard Morara pointed out that the suspect, Lydia Anyango left her village home six months ago – only to return holding the one-month-old baby.
According to residents, the suspect had not been pregnant when she left home, and so her arrival back to the village with a child shocked the villagers.
The suspect was arrested after she failed to produce hospital admission documents or maternity papers concerning the child.
This comes a few months after the suspect had been arrested in January 2024 for allegedly masquerading as a General Service Unit (GSU) officer in Butula.
