President William Ruto has nominated Ahmed Issack Hassan, former chair of Kenya's Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), as the new Chairperson of the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).

This announcement, shared by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei, confirms that Hassan’s name has been submitted to Parliament for approval and appointment.

Hassan was among eight candidates shortlisted following the IPOA Chairperson Selection Panel’s call for applications on September 13, 2024. Eight candidates were shortlisted for the chairperson role, and 37 individuals were considered for board member positions.

The list of nominees for IPOA board members includes Ann Wanjiku Mwangi, Dr. Micah Onyiego Nyakego, Boniface Kipkemoi Samati, Dr. Annette Mbogoh, John Muchiri Nyaga, Ken Williams Nyakomitah, and Jackline Lukalo Mwenesi.

Koskei’s communiqué explained that these nominations align with President Ruto’s role in filling vacancies across crucial state agencies and constitutional commissions, following recommendations from the designated selection panels.

President Ruto also nominated Charles Orinda Dulo as Chairperson of the Commission on Administrative Justice (CAJ), former Starehe MP Charles Njagua Kanyi, and Dorothy Jemator Kimengech as board members.

For the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC), Ruto proposed Sammy Chepkwony as Chairperson, alongside six other nominees: Retired Maj. Gen. Martin Kizito Ong'oyi, Mohamed Aden Abdi, Jane Gatakaa Njage, Leonid Ashindu, Dr. Gilda Odera, and Dr. Geoffrey Apollo Omondi.

Additionally, former Isiolo Woman Rep Rehema Dida Jaldesa has been nominated to lead the National Gender and Equality Commission, and Michael Mbithuka Nzomo has been appointed as a new board member.

President Ruto has also proposed Gerald Nyoma Arita for the position of Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya. These appointments await final parliamentary approval.
