A middle-aged man tragically lost his life, and another sustained injuries following a gas explosion in Oyugis, Rachuonyo South, Homa Bay County.
The victim, whose identity is yet to be confirmed, died instantly after being struck by debris from a gas cylinder during the incident.
According to Oyugis Chief Emily Owuor, the man was standing approximately 20 meters away from the blast site when the flying debris fatally hit him.

Another man, who suffered severe injuries in the explosion, was quickly taken to Matata Hospital for treatment. He was later discharged after receiving medical care.
The explosion occurred in a shop owned by a gas cylinder dealer following a fire that reportedly started in a nearby barbershop. The flames rapidly spread, igniting the cylinders and causing a devastating blast.
Rachuonyo South police commander Philemon Saera confirmed that investigations are underway to determine the cause of the fire and subsequent explosion. Authorities are examining the circumstances to prevent future tragedies of this nature.
