The Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) is pushing for a salary increase of 50 to 100 percent for its members under the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) to address the rising cost of living.
KUPPET Secretary General Akelo Misori highlighted significant price hikes, particularly in oil products, between 2017 and 2024. The union is also calling for risk allowances for teachers working in hardship areas, as well as those in laboratories and workshops, to cover potential injuries sustained on the job.
Speaking at a KUPPET meeting held at AIC Mokombet Church in Uasin Gishu County, Misori justified the union’s decision to suspend the recent nationwide industrial action that disrupted learning. Other union leaders, including Deputy Secretary General Moses Nturima and National Vice Chairman Julius Korir, were also present at the meeting.
