Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has enlisted the services of a high-profile Canadian lobbying firm as he positions himself for a 2027 presidential bid.
Matiang’i signed a consultancy agreement with Montreal-based Dickens & Madson on July 29, 2024, to boost his campaign efforts. According to documents obtained by Waza News, he paid an initial fee of $65,000 (Ksh.8.4 million) and committed to a retainer of $250,000 (Ksh.32.3 million).
The agreement outlines that the firm will provide media and public relations services, as well as lobby the executive and legislative branches of the U.S. government to rally support for Matiang’i’s presidential ambitions. Additionally, the firm will assist in creating and distributing informational materials to further his goals.

The contract is set for a one-year term, with the possibility of renewal upon mutual agreement.
Since stepping back from active politics in 2022, following the end of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s tenure, Matiang’i has remained silent about his presidential aspirations. However, this move signals his intent to build momentum ahead of the 2027 race.
Dickens & Madson, known for its work with African leaders, has previously lobbied for high-profile figures, including Zimbabwe’s late leader Robert Mugabe and Libyan militia commander Khalifa Haftar. In 2019, the firm signed a $6 million (Ksh.774 million) deal with Sudan’s military regime to improve its global image following a coup.
