Impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has hinted at a major political return in January 2025 following consultations with Mt. Kenya region leaders.
Speaking at a church service in Murang’a, Gachagua attributed his fallout with President William Ruto to betrayal, stating it has enabled him to re-strategize.
Gachagua accused Ruto of supporting his ouster and vowed his return to politics would be thoughtful and decisive. "Mt. Kenya people despise lies and betrayal. Come January, after consultations, we’ll announce our direction. We’ll never find ourselves in such a position again," he declared.
The former DP criticized Ruto’s leadership, claiming the alleged "fight" against him exposed the president’s true intentions. "We now know Ruto’s character and will address him accordingly. This attack came early enough to prevent worse in a second term," Gachagua added.

Gachagua revealed ongoing discussions with church leaders, business stakeholders, and other influential groups who share his vision for Mt. Kenya’s development.
He also criticized the Finance Bill 2024, claiming he was the sole Cabinet member opposing it due to its unpopularity among Kenyans.
He further accused the government of undermining religious leaders and warned against repeating mistakes made during Daniel Moi’s presidency. "Ruto must respect the clergy and address their concerns," he urged during a service in Kajiado County.
Gachagua also alleged government harassment, claiming unmarked vehicles were spying on him near his Nairobi and Nyeri residences. However, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) dismissed these allegations as unfounded.
