Eleven people have died, and several others were injured after the bus they were in plunged off a cliff in the San Martín region in Peru.
Local authorities reported that the incident occurred following a head-on collision between the school bus transporting students, teachers, and parents and a van.
Jorge Sanchez, head of the San Martín regional directorate, confirmed the fatalities, which included five 17-year-old students and a two-year-old child. The crash also left 18 individuals injured.

The bus, transporting 57 passengers, departed from the northern town of Piura and was en route to the Amazonian region of San Martín. The high school students, teachers, and families were on a school trip when the accident happened in Moyobamba Province.
This tragedy highlights a concerning trend in Peru, where traffic accidents are alarmingly frequent.
According to the Ministry of Transport and Communications, over 3,100 fatalities were recorded due to road incidents in 2023 alone.
