Busia Senator and renowned activist Okiya Omtatah has taken the first steps towards a potential 2027 presidential run by forming a 10-member exploratory committee.
This team, led by Mary Kathomi and comprising political strategists, legal experts, and activists, will evaluate Omtatah’s chances through nationwide opinion polls and public consultations.
The committee's mandate includes gauging his popularity, crafting strategies to outmaneuver rivals, and solidifying his appeal to nationwide voters.

Omtatah aims to challenge President William Ruto, accusing him of failing to deliver on promises and calling for Kenyans to back his vision of change. "I am fully committed to this fight. Unseating Ruto will not be easy, but I am ready," Omtatah stated.
Julius Okara, the committee's patron, expressed confidence in Omtatah's candidacy while emphasizing the importance of grassroots input.
"We believe Omtatah is the right leader for the job, but we want every Kenyan's voice heard," Okara noted.
The committee also features Gen Z activist and PR strategist Hanifa Farsafi, "Omtatah’s values align with ours, and we stand behind his vision," Farsafi shared.
Confident in public goodwill, Omtatah is optimistic about receiving financial support for his campaign. "Money is not the main concern—Kenyans have shown their commitment to change," he affirmed.
