Five people have died, and several others have been injured after a factory’s perimeter wall collapsed during a funeral in Miritini, Jomvu, Mombasa County.
The victims, who had attended a burial ceremony, sought refuge from the rain by leaning against the wall. Unfortunately, according to Ibrahim Basafar, an official from the county's emergency response team, the structure gave way.
Among the deceased were a baby and three women, who died instantly at the scene. The fifth victim succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at a private hospital nearby.
This heartbreaking incident has raised concerns about structural safety in the area during the rainy season.
