The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has issued an ultimatum to the Machakos County government, threatening a full-scale strike if the ongoing dispute with doctors is not resolved.

Dr. Davji Atellah, KMPDU Secretary-General, announced that doctors will completely withdraw their services, including minimal care, due to the county's disregard for their demands and failure to honor the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

Atellah accused the county government of withholding two months' salary for striking doctors, further exacerbating the situation. He emphasized that the union will organize a major demonstration on December 18th if the county remains unresponsive.

"We are not on strike; the county is on strike by refusing to pay us," Atellah stated. "Machakos County owes doctors Ksh.62 million, while the national government owes us Ksh. 3.5 billion."

The union leader highlighted the nationwide issue of delayed salary payments and CBA implementation, affecting doctors in all 47 counties. He warned that Machakos County will be part of a potential national strike if the situation is not addressed.

Meanwhile, Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has alleged that the doctors' strike is politically motivated. The impact of the strike is evident in the deserted wards of Machakos Level 5 Hospital, forcing patients to seek medical care elsewhere.
