Six employees of Sony Sugar Company have been arrested by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for their alleged involvement in the theft of 7.55 tonnes of sugar in April 2024.
The company’s Managing Director, Martin Dima, confirmed the arrests and revealed that two senior officials from the sales department remain at large and are being pursued by law enforcement.
According to Dima, the loss was uncovered during an audit before he was appointed Managing Director. Since then, investigations have been underway. Findings were submitted to the General Purpose Committee, which recommended police intervention.
Dima also disclosed that the 7.55 tonnes of sugar stolen were recorded in April, but the company is now investigating whether additional thefts occurred earlier. He called on authorities to ensure thorough investigations into all individuals linked to the robbery.
Committed to improving the company’s operations, Dima emphasized his goal of restoring stability and addressing financial challenges that have hindered the company’s growth.
