Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed that retired officers have stepped in to provide security for him following the withdrawal of his official security detail.

Speaking during an interview on *Inooro TV's Kiririmbi* show on Sunday, Gachagua alleged that his security team was pulled back after the consecration and installation of Bishop Peter Kimani Ndung’u in Embu County on November 16, 2024.

He claimed he had initially been assigned six officers—four stationed at his residence and two for personal protection—but now relies on retired security personnel for safety amid alleged threats to his life.

"I am being guarded by retired officers who have volunteered. Some previously served in KWS, others in KFS," Gachagua stated. "After what happened in Limuru, about 300 people from different places came forward to offer their support. They volunteered to guard my homes, but above all, I know God is watching over me—He is the ultimate protector."

*Alleged Attack in Limuru*

Gachagua also recounted an alleged assassination attempt during a funeral in Limuru, Kiambu County, on November 28. He claimed a group of armed individuals disrupted the event, attacked attendees, and targeted his vehicle.

"In Limuru, I had no security—it was only God who protected me. The plan was to assassinate me," he claimed. "Young men stormed in, pulled down tent poles, and were actively looking for me. They spoke in Kikuyu, saying *'gutha mutwe' (hit the head).* They even surrounded my car and attacked it from all sides."

According to Gachagua, he escaped unscathed thanks to the bravery of four young men who shielded him from harm. However, one of them sustained injuries and is currently hospitalized.

*Political Motives Behind the Attacks*

The former deputy president alleged that these incidents are politically motivated due to his outspoken criticism of President William Ruto's administration and his public engagements since being removed from office.

Gachagua indicated that he is undeterred by the threats and plans to announce his next political move in 2025.

"I believe the targeted attacks are meant to silence me because of my statements against the government. But I will continue to stand firm. In 2025, I will make a major announcement regarding my political direction," he concluded.
