Political activist Morara Kebaso, known for his bold persona and mimicry of President William Ruto's speeches and signature kaunda suits, has expressed his determination to vie for the presidency in 2027. Morara revealed that Kenyans backing his vision have collectively donated approximately Ksh.6 million to support his activism and campaign efforts.

Having gained prominence in 2024 through his creative approach to critiquing the government, Morara confidently likens his political journey to that of former U.S. President Donald Trump. He dismisses criticism regarding his appeal for public donations, arguing that even Trump, a billionaire, relied on contributions from well-wishers to fund his campaign.

Morara believes that when citizens finance a leader, they foster accountability, as opposed to leaders who self-fund and may feel entitled to exploit public resources. "Donald Trump didn't spend even $10 during his campaign, yet he is a billionaire. When the public funds you, they own you, and you are accountable to them," he asserted. He warned that self-funded leaders often feel justified in misusing public resources, saying, "When you fund the public, they owe you. That’s why some leaders feel entitled to steal."

The activist outlined the financial aspects of his movement, detailing expenditures such as a PA system and vehicle worth Ksh.2.5 million, fuel costs of Ksh.1.5 to 2 million, as well as operational costs for furniture, printers, researchers, and staff salaries. To date, his initiative has consumed approximately Ksh.5 to 6 million.

Addressing skepticism about his authenticity, particularly accusations that he may be a proxy for another political agenda, the 29-year-old firmly denied being anyone's stooge. "I am my own man, supported by Kenyans who believe in me. I am not consolidating youth votes for another candidate. If the youth support me, I’m secure as president and have no need to sell their votes," he stated.

Morara emphasized the importance of consistency in activism, noting that time will distinguish genuine leaders from opportunists. "Consistency will define true defenders of the nation. Those who drop off will reveal themselves as conmen," he said.

As the founder of the Inclusive National Justice, Economic, and Civil Transformation (INJECT) party, Morara exudes confidence in his movement’s ideology. He views his only formidable opponent in the 2027 presidential race as Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah, dismissing other contenders like Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

He challenged Kalonzo’s bid, questioning his record as a former Vice President: "What does Kalonzo plan to do now that he couldn’t accomplish as VP? Why was it difficult for him then?"

Morara concluded by calling for patience from both supporters and critics, asserting that his work would ultimately validate his commitment to the nation. "Why not wait? Consistency will reveal true leaders. Those who persevere in their work are the real defenders of our nation," he remarked.
