Through the Kazi Mashinani Program, the Kakamega County Government has provided unemployed youths with opportunities to work as casual employees.
The recruits in the programme, according to Governor Fernandes Barasa, would labour under a one-year contract and get paid by the county administration.
In order to take advantage of the programme, which will begin in March, he challenged each County Assembly member to designate 50 unemployed children from each of their wards.
The Programme is similar to his predecessor’s, Wycliffe Oparanya, CountyYouth and Women Empowerment Program which had listed 3000 beneficiaries.
When Oparanya was in office, the county government paid the young people and women hired through the programme Kes 6 million each month to work as security guards, take care of county infrastructure projects, and clear roadside vegetation.
