Speaking to the waste management team, the Governor urged them to maximize the use of the new resources and meet the public’s expectations for a cleaner Nairobi. “Our residents expect effective service delivery. We must deliver and maintain a clean, healthy environment,” he emphasized.
Governor Sakaja, accompanied by Green Nairobi CEC Maureen Njeri and Environment Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria, reiterated his administration’s goal to transform Nairobi into one of Africa’s cleanest cities.
“Just two days ago, over 3,500 Green Army members participated in countywide cleanup activities. Cleanliness is crucial—we cannot prosper in a dirty environment. Our streets, markets, and neighborhoods must be spotless. Let’s commit to this goal,” he urged.
The Governor also announced plans to establish Green Nairobi Company Limited, a dedicated parastatal to oversee the city’s cleanliness. Modeled after Nairobi Water, the entity will operate independently to ensure consistent funding and streamlined waste management operations.
“This new company will bring efficiency and accountability to the system. While garbage collectors will remain involved, they’ll follow updated procedures to enhance their effectiveness,” Sakaja explained.
