Several senators allied with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua have been stripped of their positions in influential Senate committees, signaling a deepening political fallout between Gachagua and President William Ruto.

Among those affected are Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu, Kiambu Senator Karungo Thangwa, and Kirinyaga Senator James Murango. Nyutu, who previously chaired the Education Committee, and Thangwa, the former head of the Roads and Transport Committee, have both been ousted from their roles. Similarly, Murango has been removed from his position as Chair of the Agriculture Committee.

Additionally, Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has lost his seat on the prestigious Senate Public Accounts Committee. Omtatah, who has publicly declared his intention to challenge President Ruto in the 2027 General Election, has been a vocal critic of the current administration.
