Former Kiambu County Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been sentenced to 12 years in prison or a fine of Ksh. 52.5 million after being found guilty of a conflict of interest in a Ksh. 588 million corruption case.

The ruling was delivered at Milimani Law Courts on Thursday, where the ex-governor was also barred from holding any political office for the next seven years.

Waititu’s wife, Susan Ndung’u, was handed a one-year jail term or an alternative fine of Ksh. 500,000 after being convicted on graft-related charges. However, the couple was acquitted of three money laundering charges.

Additionally, Charles Chege, the director of Testimony Enterprises Limited, received a nine-year prison sentence or a fine of Ksh. 295 million. Beth Wangeci, another company director, was fined Ksh. 1 million or face one year behind bars.
