Former Kenyan Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has publicly endorsed Raila Odinga for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship ahead of the upcoming elections.
Taking to social media on Friday morning, Gachagua described Odinga as the most qualified candidate to lead the AUC, emphasizing his vast experience and dedication to African unity.
"Raila Odinga is the right leader for the African Union Commission. Africa deserves a visionary leader who can drive progress," Gachagua stated.
He highlighted Odinga’s commitment to fostering regional integration, bridging the divide between Anglophone and Francophone nations, and strengthening the continent’s global influence. According to Gachagua, a victory for Odinga would elevate Kenya’s diplomatic standing and reinforce Pan-African ideals.
"His leadership will be a game-changer for Africa. Winning this election in Ethiopia will validate his dedication to Pan-Africanism," he added.

The highly anticipated AUC elections will occur in Addis Ababa on February 15 and 16, where African heads of state will cast secret ballots to select the next Chairperson and Deputy Chairperson. A candidate must obtain at least 33 votes from the 55 AU member states to secure the position.
Odinga faces stiff competition from Djibouti’s Mahmoud Ali Youssouf and Madagascar’s Richard Randriamandrato in what is expected to be a closely contested race.
