A businessman accused of scamming young job seekers out of more than Ksh 10 million under the pretense of securing employment opportunities in Canada has been arrested.
The suspect, identified as Caesar Wagichuru Kingori, was apprehended after failing to appear before Senior Resident Magistrate Keyne Odhiambo, where he was scheduled to plead to charges of obtaining money by pretenses.
Three days before his scheduled court appearance, Kingori had posted a cash bail of Ksh 100,000. However, when his name was called in court, he was nowhere to be found, prompting the state prosecutor to request an immediate warrant for his arrest.
The magistrate then directed law enforcement to detain him for failing to honor the court summons regarding the 11 counts of fraud levied against him.
Kingori, who ran his operations from Daima Plaza along the Eldoret-Nakuru highway, allegedly defrauded numerous degree and diploma holders by promising to facilitate their travel and job placements overseas.

His arrest followed a coordinated operation by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), acting on a tip-off from victims—most of whom are between 25 and 30 years old.
Several job seekers, who had been waiting at Kingori’s office for months hoping to secure employment abroad, hail from Nandi, Elgeyo Marakwet, Uasin Gishu, and Trans Nzoia counties. Reports indicate they paid between Ksh 150,000 and Ksh 350,000 each for the fraudulent job placements.
Following Kingori’s re-arrest, the court has scheduled the case for mention on March 3, 2024, for further proceedings.
