Isaac Mutuma M’Ethingia was officially sworn in as the new Governor of Meru on Monday, pledging transformative leadership for the county.
During his inauguration speech, Mutuma assured residents of his commitment to unity, development, and good governance.
“I dedicate myself to serving the people of Meru with integrity, transparency, and accountability in public service,” he stated.
Mutuma prioritized healthcare, vowing to collaborate with the national government to ensure residents benefit from the national health insurance program. The county will cover insurance costs for the most vulnerable, ensuring access to quality medical care without financial strain.
He also highlighted plans to enhance cancer treatment by equipping cancer centers for better diagnosis, research, and treatment. “We must bring hope to our people by operationalizing the Cancer Act,” he affirmed.
To further support cancer treatment, his administration will partner with Athletics Kenya to revive the Mount Kenya Mountain Running Championship, using proceeds to boost healthcare services. Additionally, the county will establish health tourism centers to generate revenue.
### **Youth Empowerment and Social Programs**
Governor Mutuma committed to tackling gender-based violence, reducing teenage pregnancies, and curbing new HIV infections through targeted programs. Teenage mothers will be given opportunities to continue their education or gain vocational skills.
Revamping the Meru Youth Service is also on his agenda, aiming to equip young people with relevant skills and startup kits to create over 1,000 jobs annually.
### **Infrastructure and Economic Growth**
Mutuma assured residents that improving the county’s road network will be a priority to facilitate economic development.
With a strong focus on innovation and collaboration, his administration aims to uplift Meru through strategic partnerships and people-centered policies.
