Police in Sotik, Bomet County, have apprehended a suspect involved in the vandalism of Kenya Power transformers in the area. Hassan Kipkurui Rotich was arrested after members of the public tipped off authorities about an ongoing act of vandalism.

“Officers from Kapletundo Police Station responded promptly and caught Rotich in the act,” stated the DCI on X.

During questioning, Rotich disclosed the locations of two additional transformers that he and an accomplice, Collins Kibet, who is still at large, had previously damaged, rendering them inoperable in Chepkosa and Cheptigit villages.

Rotich, along with the evidence, was taken to Kapletundo Police Station, where he remains in custody awaiting arraignment. A manhunt has been launched for Kibet.

The DCI has warned the public against engaging in vandalism of essential infrastructure, stating that such actions will be met with severe legal consequences.
