Former Migori Governor Okoth Obado has defended himself in court against accusations of the murder of university student Sharon Otieno.

During the proceedings, Obado claimed he was open about his affair with Sharon, stating he had confessed to his wife and was taking steps to end the relationship before her tragic death.

Obado explained that he had admitted the affair to his wife, apologized, and reassured her that it was over. He also confirmed his responsibility for the child Sharon was expecting. In a surprising turn, Obado shared that his wife had even offered Sharon one of their properties, but he declined, as he had no intentions of marrying a second wife.

The former governor recounted a private meeting where he found his wife, a journalist, and a man named XYZ in a boardroom. His wife was already aware of the affair by August, and XYZ, who claimed to have received information from journalist Lawrence Muller, wanted to confirm the details.

Obado revealed that his wife briefly left to make tea, allowing XYZ to inform him about Muller’s involvement in the story. He also disclosed that his wife had lent him Ksh.30,000 to assist in the situation.

Obado further described a meeting with Muller at Nairobi's Heron Court Hotel, where Muller discussed Sharon’s request for housing assistance. Obado rejected her preference for property in Kisumu, instead suggesting a Ksh.3 million house in Homa Bay.

He also mentioned that Sharon’s pregnancy-related health issues were addressed, and he promised financial support through Muller, including medical coverage. Sharon reportedly agreed to move into a rental property until the house was built.
