Nandi County has released Kes60 million in education bursaries to needy students across the county to facilitate their return to school.
Nandi Governor Stephen Sang noted that the bursary would benefit students in universities, secondary, primary and special groups to pursue their education.
Speaking at the Cheptarit Vocational Training Center in Mosoriot Sub County during the disbursement process, Sang stated that the funding's primary goal is to advance education in the area and make sure that deserving but talented kids have the chance to pursue their studies without obstacles.
Sang added that the programme's main aim is to help many students acquire an education and reduce the financial burden on their parents.
“Education is the best legacy parents can be bestow on their children,” he added.
Further, he stated that students who have received the bursary should concentrate in school and work hard because their parents and guardians will no longer spend more sleepless nights thinking about where they will get money to pay their fees.
On her part, Nandi Deputy Governor Dr Yulita Mitei said education is the only avenue through which the life of children from poor families and their counterparts from rich families could be equalized.
“This programme is aimed at shaping the lives is children so that we can have a society of various professionals in the future,” she said
The Deputy Governor asked teachers and parents to keep an eye on their student's academic progress and conduct both inside and outside of the classroom.
Scolastica Tuwei, a member of the Nandi County Executive Committee responsible for education, sports, culture, and youth affairs, said the effort to determine the beneficiaries was carried out in a transparent manner to guarantee that only qualified children benefited.
“ The community and local administration ensured we selected only deserving cases, especially those coming from poor backgrounds, orphans and the disabled,” she said.
The governor also commissioned the distribution of learning materials to all the ECDE centers across the county.
