Gatundu South Member of Parliament Gabriel Kagombe has expressed support for the creation of the office of the opposition leader, saying that it was the best way to make the opposition operate within the law.

In a press interview over the weekend, the Gatundu mp Kagombe stated that the current situation, in which no opposition leader's office is under the law, has led to the opposition participating in free activities.

The mp said that it is an oversight that the constitution did not provide the office of the opposition leader. The mp added that the opposition is expected to behave in a certain way and avoid doing what they have been doing in the past few weeks, including organising rallies and holding prayers that intend to distract economic activities.

The gatundu mp insists that a law should be in place that stipulates how the opposition operates and manages its activities. During past meetings with members of his administration, president Ruto called for them to rally behind his motion to establish an official office of the opposition, saying that the office would make the opposition more effective in putting the government in check.

However, leaders from the opposition have dismissed the move to establish the office, saying that it is rutos plan to tame the azmio leader. The President has also denied claims that his proposal to establish the Office of the Official Leader of the Opposition is a ploy to give Raila Odinga a formal position.

In a past interview, Raila Odinga faulted the move, saying that ruto is trying to copy parts of the building bridges initiative (BBI) that he fiercely opposed. Odinga went ahead to say that the motion would fail based on what BBI did, and that is that the President cannot initiate a constitutional reform.
