At Jacaranda Grounds in Nairobi's Eastlands neighbourhood, a 32-year-old man is accused of insulting president William Ruto and daring police officers to arrest him. Shandrack Omondi Orwa was accused of violating Section 95 (1) of the Criminal Code by causing a commotion likely to lead to a breach of the peace (b).
Mr Omondi was accused of yelling and saying to police officers on patrol in the neighbourhood, "Maandamano tutaenda...makarao ni wachache wataumia serious (we'll protest... there are very few police officers... they will get wounded)".
Following his attendance at a Bunge La Mwananchi gathering on the grounds on March 3 this year, Mr Orwa was also charged with participating in an unlawful assembly violating Section 79 of the Penal Code.
By threatening to stone the police officers patrolling the area, the suspect and others still at large are accused of inciting the public to act violently against them.

Speaking to the crowd and then the media, Mr Omondi allegedly used derogatory language.
After speaking to the media, he departed and went home, but police officers pursued him and took him into custody. He was led to Kayole police headquarters.
According to Bunge La Mwananchi officials who provided statements to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) regarding the incident, Mr Omondi is a member of the organization. Still, they never authorized him to instigate the public or disparage Dr Ruto.
Mr Omondi expressed remorse for his comments against the president and the police to the DCI during the investigations.
