Five Kirinyaga County Assembly (MCA) members have been expelled from House committees amid new power battles.
David Kinyua Wangui, the chairman of Legal Affairs and the delegated county legislation, and Moses Migwi, the vice chairman of Administration and Public Services, are two of the five MCAs released from their committee duties. Wangui represents the Mutira ward. Migwi represents the Kanyekiine ward.
Before the senate reinstated her, Kinyua filed an impeachment motion against Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru in 2020, accusing her of grave misconduct and abuse of office.
"Even if they remove me from the house committee, I won't remain silent. I have to stand out for Kirinyaga's residents, Kinyua declared.
The five MCAs were dismissed due to indiscipline, according to County Assembly majority leader Daniel Kibinga, who confirmed the changes.
The Five MCAs contend that their expulsion from the committees was due to their opposition to Waiguru's leadership.
Only six of the 31 MCAs in the County Assembly of Kirinyaga are independent and capable of challenging the Waiguru administration. "Yes, madam, the rest are," MCA David Mathenge responded.
They also asserted that the procedure was defective and violated the standing rules, and they vowed to contest their dismissal in court.
